Modern Photos of Waldwiesstroff and Grindorff

Kindly sent in by Nigel Lane

"With the Maginot Line just 30mins drive away I find this area very interesting so when I hit on your item Private War Diary of Captain L. Twomey at Waldwiesstroff I was fascinated, work was put on hold, a 1:50000 map of the Metz/Thornville region was bought and off I went exploring. Very little has changed in that very poor area with about 5% of the housing still derelict. In Waldwiesstroff I could not see any evidence of the war but on exploring the woods at Grindorff I found a lot of trench systems and possibly the site of the OP at Map ref 4113,2879. I have attached several photos, the first is possibly the OP it was the only trench way to exit the tree line and entered into a depression within this semi-circular mound. The 2nd being the view from inside the mound, unfortunately  my lens wasn't wide enough to see the whole view. The 3rd is of Grindorff Station at Map ref 4104,2876, the railway now disused and the station house a private dwelling."
